Alpha

My bad quality video

Hello again today i will be talking about my alpha.

Which you can see above. What I have been doing since last week?

Well my whole Unity file corrupted on me :) So I had to restart my whole game and everyone already knows how busy college. I didn't even get a chance to do my source code for this to be fully playable which I am really annoyed about as I worked hard the first time around.

I am finding difficulty in the source code and making this game completely playable but have to keep trying. I am going to look up tutorials on how to do the correct and best code for this game and hopefully can get a somewhat decent game out of this.

The targets I have planned to meet by now are a week behind because of this big ordeal of losing my game but from now till our deadline I will be working tirelessly trying to get it to go well.

Fingers crossed I can get it!

See you guys next week :)

  1. Hi Jen,

I am so sorry to hear about what happened to your files for unity. This happened to me once before but I was lucky enough that the files that were then lost were just practice files. I can only imagine the amount of stress that caused you. But, looking at what you have from the video you linked in your blog post, It is extremely impressive! You clearly have good attention to detail.

I honestly have no idea how to make a game continuous but, if needs be (this is just a suggestion that might help) you can out all of your current objects into one specific empty game object (e.g. environment as a name) and you can (command + D) and then use the moving tool on #scene to completely duplicate everything you've created. I hope that makes sense! If it doesn't, and you think this might be of use to you, let me know and I'll help you.

    Good Luck!

  2. Hi Jen,

That is terrible that you lost your files. Unity seems a bit dodgy in that regard. I didn't know how reliant on AutoSave I was until Unity crashed on me with no backup file or autosaved file to recover. So much progress lost. But to have to start from scratch sounds awful.

But it looks like you managed to get back on track! I have to say, the game is looking great. There is a lot of work that has gone into it and it shows. It actually reminds me of a Unity game that someone showed me with a flying gorilla collecting bananas in a sort of Temple Run fashion. Bizarre, but might be worth checking out for a bit of craic.

Well done, and keep it up!

  3. Hi Jen,
so sad to hear about you game file corrupting! i know that has happened to quite a few people and some people who updated unity could not open their files. Its really great that you have gotten most of your game back up and running in under a week! you'll get the with the code. i know there is a lot of source code available on GitHub and there is also a youtuber, brackeys that hs a lot of code available too, especially for walk maps and things.

I cant wait to pay your game, it looks like one of those games that will addictive to play!

  4. Hi Jennifer,

I'm sorry to hear that your game file corrupted, as someone who plays game I know heartbreaking losing everything because of file corrupted, THEY TOOK MY SIMS FROM ME DAMNIT ! HOW COULD THEY TAKE FRED FROM ME ?!

Anyway it seems you made huge leaps to try and get back to where you were before, good on you ! I know you can get scripts from Unity for free so you could use those to get back ? Now be careful with what you download because there's seems to be different way to type codes because thanks C#, make it easy for us to mess our code.

Anyway, I'm excited to see the finish product cause so far, I'm interested to see how your turns out because right now I want to play it !!

Anyway I can't wait to see your game !

  5. Hey Jen,

So sorry to hear about what happened to your game. Unity is a bit dodgy when it comes to crashing and deleting files by the looks of things. I had to make my game three times! I know since talking to you in class that this has happened again for you. I know it can be so frustrating but I hope you're not too stressed out.

The game in your video looks great. There are some great tutorials on youtube for C# Script. I know C# script can be so difficult and tedious but you'll get there in the end.

I can't wait to see your game!
